Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

The nasal endoscope is a small, lighted metal telescope placed into the nostril. The endoscope allows the surgeon to see inside the nose and sinuses, usually with a special video camera attached to the endoscope. It is performed through the nose, without face or mouth incisions. Endoscopic sinus surgery is typically done with minimal nasal packing, mild pain, and short recovery times.

Endoscopic sinus surgery is used to treat “chronic rhinosinusitis”, or more commonly “chronic sinusitis” which is chronic inflammation (swelling) of the nose and sinuses that does not improve sufficiently with medical treatment.

Septoplasty & Turbinate Surgery

The nasal septum and the turbinates are normal parts of the nose. The nasal septum is the structure that divides your nasal passages into the right and left sides. A deviated septum refers to a septum that is crooked.

The septum is made of cartilage and bone. The cartilage and bone of the septum are lined by a thin membrane called mucosa. This layer acts like a layer of skin for the inside of the nose. This layer covers and protects the cartilage and bone. It also helps to keep the inside of the nose moist.

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty is surgery to correct, reconstruct or reshape the ear. Changing the shape of the ear can be done for either cosmetic or functional reasons. Some types of ear changes that can be made by Dr. Paciorek are:

  • Ear Augmentation- fix underdeveloped or non-existent pinna (Microtia)
  • Flatten Protruding Ears (Otopexy)
  • Reduce Ear Size - when the pinna is too big (Macrotia).

An otoplasty should be done after the ears are full size. Most children's ears will be full size by five years old. The surgery can create missing folds by remodeling the cartilage and positioning the ear closer to the head.

Skin Cancer Removal & Reconstruction

Skin cancer is a disease in which cancerous (malignant) cells are found in the outer layers of your skin.

There are several types of cancer that originate in the skin. The most common types are basal cell carcinoma (70 percent of all skin cancers) and squamous cell carcinoma (20 percent). These types are classified as nonmelanoma skin cancer. Melanoma (5 percent of all skin cancers) is the third type of skin cancer. It is less common than basal cell or squamous cell cancers, but potentially much more serious. Other types of skin cancer are rare.
